Fields are Shrinking

Thursday evening August 18, 2005 I attended a memorial service at King Of Kings Church in Middletown, New Jersey for a friend of mine that I have known since I was nine years old, Robert Willard Evans. Bobby was 64, a big man physically at between 250-300 lbs but with a gentle heart and one who cared about everyone he new and met. He loved everybody and everybody that got to know him loved him. I finally met his son Robert for the first time. Robert lives in Arizona and is a child from his first wife. It was moving to see the various people getting up to comment on their reflections of Bobby an how much of a positive influence he had on everyone with his love. It was especially strikingly moving when his son Robert got up to talk. His son Robert looks like and speaks in the same voice and mannerism of his dad. His son Robert was especially moved by the outpouring of love from the 125 or so people that were there and he made a comment that he should have brought his family.

A couple of months ago I saw Bobby in the hospital and even then he was positive and full of love wanting to hug me and my ex-fiancee. We talked about the good things we did together and his service in the U.S. Navy on the Destroyer the Boston which was part of the Mediterranean Fleet and also took part in the Bay of Pigs Invasion, which he said they were sworn to secrecy about.

When we were teenagers Bobby and his cousin Jack use to double date a lot together and Bobby's brother Richie and I use to double date a lot together.

Bobby had a nack for taking something that looked like nothing and making something out of it. His creativity as a child, young man, and mature man is exemplified in the love he dissipated to everyone he touched.
